The MPHS Varsity Scholastic Bowl is having an amazing season! Last night, the team won all three Tomahawk Conference games in Athens. The team’s final conference record is 18 & 3, which earned them second place in the conference. Hartsburg-Emden had a 20 & 1 record, which put them in first place; however, the Toppers were that one team to beat them in the first match of the season.
Bryson Beccue earned the distinction of being the Top Player in the All Conference Team and was the Highest Scoring Player in the conference. Bryson scored 155 tossups, while the second place player had 96.
Previously this season, the varsity competed in the Masonic Sectional Tournament on February 15, at Warrensburg Latham. There were 10 teams and the Toppers won 5 out of 7 games in the tournament. The Mt. Pulaski team placed 2nd in the Tournament and won a $300 Prize.
Varsity Team participants this year include Nigel Adams, Bryson Beccue, Emma Buenrostro, Jaycie Doerr, Garrett Fitzpatrick, Bobby McDonough, and Aletheia Woodford. The Junior Varsity team is developing nicely this season and includes Jesse Carter, Keeton Matson, Joseph Roemer, and Cora Lynn Wallace. The Toppers are coached by Mr. Mark Graue.
The Varsity State Sectional Tournament is in two weeks at Farmer City.
