Today this nightstand was finished up and taken home. During assembly, the top piece was accidentally split down the middle. A tricky, yet decorative way to fix the issue was to put a couple walnut butterfly inlays across the split to hold it together. The student did an awesome job of persevering through this challenging project!
The weather today has caused the cancellation of the baseball game and the track meet.

Logan County Community Invited to Send Messages of Hope and Support to Local Veterans
The newly formed Central Illinois Veterans Commission has partnered with 2X4's For Hope of Quincy to build homes in Lincoln to be given to local veterans. Thanks to generous local support, the first of these homes is scheduled to be completed within the next few months, with more of these tiny homes being built and gifted in the future.
The backbone of the 2X4's For Hope organization revolves around a single piece of lumber, called a 2X4, which is used to build the framework of a tiny home. These 2X4's, prior to the homes being built are signed, and decorated with messages of love, support, wisdom, and success by the community to your veterans, so that once the home is completed, the veteran recipient will always be surrounded by the love, honor and respect of the community for a new beginning, a new day, and hope.
The Logan County Community is invited to come to a 2X4 signing event, to be held at RP Lumber in Saturday, April 24th from 8-12 noon. Come and send your message of hope and support to the veterans who will be honored to receive the gift of a home.
A groundbreaking for the first home is being planned for 1:30pm on Saturday, April 24th at the building location on 6th Street and College.
On any given night in the United States, it is estimated that over 48,000 homeless veterans are searching for a place to sleep. The mission of the CIVC is to provide Central Illinois veterans with the tools and support systems to enable them to move forward to obtain permanent sustainable housing. Help send the message of hope!

Tomorrow (4/16) is a School Improvement Day. Students will be dismissed at 11:30 a.m.
This week was the hybrid FCCLA State Conference. Students competed virtually on Monday and Tuesday and then were able to attend an in-person election and recognition session today in Springfield. MPHS FCCLA was lucky enough to have a student who helped plan the meeting as he has served the last year as an Illinois FCCLA State Officer. We also had another student who ran for State Office at this meeting. She was elected and will serve for the next year. Additionally, we had four students who competed in events and were recognized for their hard work accomplishments with 1 silver and 3 gold medal ratings! What an awesome end to an unusual and somewhat trying FCCLA year. MPHS has truly remarkable students that I am blessed to have the opportunity to work with!
